The latest BlackBerry smartphone model was launched recently by Research In Motion (RIM) in Malaysia.The phone, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 (right), was launched by Gregory Wade (below right), RIM Asia Pacific regional vice president, who also detailed the phone’s many new features.

The new model introduces an innovative touch-sensitive trackpad which makes scrolling and selecting smooth and easy for exceptional navigation.

It is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to feature dedicated media keys, which are smoothly integrated along the top of the handset giving customers an easy, convenient way to control their music and videos.

This user-friendly BlackBerry device provides easy access to email, messaging and social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace, and features a highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard for comfortable, accurate typing.

It is also wi-fi-enabled and includes rich multimedia capabilities with easy access to music, games and other mobile applications for entertainment on-the-go through BlackBerry App World, featuring a catalogue of third-party mobile applications developed for BlackBerry smartphones..

Wade said: “The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an incredibly approachable and feature-rich smartphone and it delivers all the great messaging, social networking and multimedia features that customers have come to love about BlackBerry smartphones.

“More and more people are switching from basic cell phones and the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an exceptional choice for first-time smartphone users.”

The phone also includes a 2MP digital camera with zoom and video recording.

It comes with a 2GB microSD/SDHC memory card and has an expandable memory which supports up to 16GB and is expected to support next-generation 32GB cards when they are available.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is scheduled to be available from Celcom DiGi and Maxis towards the end of September, and pricing will be based upon call plans by the carriers.
